Salvation

For my first post I would just like to document how I got here. Earlier this year I was looking for a change of direction and picked up on the idea of Blipfoto. For those of you who have not heard Blipfoto is basically an on-line photo journal that allows you to upload only one image a day. I've always been interested in photography but only ever had fairly basic kit, but a photograph a day, how hard could that be? Well more challenging than I could imagine. Sure you could always post any old image but I'm afraid that just wouldn't wash, soon large parts of my merger free time was taken up with trying to find something interesting to blip.

I work in an office but have always preferred the outdoors and the challenge of try to get my daily blip gave me the perfect excuse to get out and about. I was soon amazed by the amount of wildlife I was "tripping over", animals I had never encountered in the wild were throwing themselves in front of my camera begging to be featured on the web.

I started my Blipfoto adventure on Tuesday 27 April 2010 and to start with photographed countryside scenes and some of the local flora. From day one I had "discovered" a small pond just outside Roxton, it was no more than a drainage facility for the A421 bypass. Between dropping my Son @ School and starting work I have a precious 30 minutes to relax. I occasionally change my parking place and quite by accident  discovered this spot.

The fun really started on Tuesday 18 May. I had seen a Grey Heron in the pond on several occasions but had never managed to get close enough get a decent image.  On this occasion I tried to get closer and sensing I had been rumbled stood stock still. After staying still for a while I caught movement out the corner of my eye, slowly moving towards the lake I saw a young Roe Deer. It was on the very path I was standing on. It was oblivious to my presence and carried on along the path. This image is one of a series of captures as the Roe Deer moved towards me. The Deer finally became aware of me no more than 6 feet away but even then it did not dash for cover but slowly moved away back in the direction it came from.

For anyone who is interested a set of pictures can be found here

And my Blipfoto Journal here

From this point on I was totally hooked but try as I might following this up proved quite difficult.

More to follow.....
